Light Award LogoWe are extremely proud for the work of several of our SMUHSD teachers and colleagues from other districts for their work with the Spanish for Native Speakers Professional Learning Community. This team of teachers has won a Light Award. Comprised of six teachers at four different schools in San Bruno, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz, the team has made it their mission over the past two years to develop a way to share learnings, lend support, and develop materials together for this crucial but under-resourced field. Now in the final year of their LIGHT Awards project, they are presenting their pedagogical work at conferences. They are also planning to continue the personal and professional alliance that they now share. In the words of the participating teachers, their LIGHT Awards grant helped build a strong, sustainable community of like-minded teachers. Watch the video to learn more.

Youth Bridge LogoSan Mateo High's Adam Thomas and Michelle Rodriguez won first place for Top Newcomer Pair at the Bay Area High School Bridge Championship this past spring. Join us in congratulating Michelle and Adam on their strong performance, finishing in the top half of a field with some very experienced tournament players!

BHS Robotics Team in HoustonThe BHS Robotics team had a lot of fun and gained a lot of competition experience in Houston, Texas at the FIRST Robotics Championships this past spring. The BHS team was selected for the 6th place alliance in the Roebling Division. They did not advance into the quarterfinals, but the teachers and students were so happy to be there, much less be selected for an alliance! Thanks to all the teachers and counselors for supporting our students through this hectic competition season!
